This season, we have had many anglers from Europe; specifically, Scotland and Ireland.  The majority of our European clients chose to fish our Northern Patagonia waters, but a few tested themselves down south, chasing Sea Run Brown's and Chinook Salmon. Here's a photo diary of two Irish gentleman, who spent ten days fishing with us.

Rio Gallegos -- Sea Run Brown Trout

Water levels on the RG were frightfully low.  Fishing was very slow.  We missed several + 20 kilo fish, but managed to bring a few to net.

Our clients travel around the world to catch SRBT.  We do everything we can to put them on SRBT, even when conditions are poor.  During slow times, we may visit a few known resident brown nest.  Some resident brown's have gone well over 30 inches.

Rio Gallegos Chico -- Resident Browns

The Rio Gallegos Chico is a pleasant diversion that offers spring creek like conditions.  On light 4wt-5wt rods, and with fish over 20 inches, this is an up-close, personal fishing experience.

The Chico is quite long, giving the DIY walker miles of exploration.

Our DIY programs are unique, they cannot be compared with lodges or outfitters.  By working with our local team, your experience is real!  You might even stop by a farm, or other local business.

Rio Serrano, Chile -- King Salmon

Fishing Torres del Paine National Park, for King Salmon is like no other experience on this earth.  I have hiked the entire park and it is one of the best places I have ever been in the entire world!

Though I am not a fan of non-wild fish, by offering this opportunity to our clients, they have a chance to see and fish a part of the world that is truly amazing.

A very healthy Chinook Salmon -- they can get much bigger!

Argentina, Chile, Sea Run Trout and Salmon

Two countries, Three Rivers, and Two Species -- All in 10 Days

Sometimes sitting in the same river day after day, can be challenging -- especially when water levels are low and the bite is not on.  I have known anglers who traveled to Rio Gallegos or Rio Grande, stayed at a lodge, only to come home without a single strike.  If conditions are poor, we can't guaranty anything, but we can provide alternative fishing options.  That being said, we highly recommend creating a fishing itinerary that provides the best overall experience, in a variety of locations -- not necessarily the amount of SRBT caught.

+300 Kilometers of Guided DIY Fishing!

I am running a business that should be 100% intuitive, yet in the market place, it is seen as unnatural, foreign, and perhaps, non-trustworthy.  Seriously, who starts a guided DIY fly fishing business in a market dominated by travel and fishing giants such Solidad, Frontiers, and Laxa. Why would anyone work with us? All good question, one's I suspect many are asking.

Anglers fish with us because our programs offer the greatest value.  Now some anglers may translate value as being cheap.  I beg to differ; we define value by overall experience, cost and catch.  In a short statement, we focus 100% of your time on fishing.  That's right, we purposely and proudly admit, that we don't wine and dine you. We eat-sleep-and FISH!  Feel free to join the fun.

Mid-December: A guided DIY client having the time of his life.

+300 Kilometers of Guided DIY Fishing!

Meet Andrew, an angler from British Columbia.  Andrew and his wife are traveling/touring Patagonia; a mix of fishing and site-seeing. To increase his chances of catching a sea run, I recommended at least three days of guided DIY fishing.  However, he explained to me that he did not have the time to stay longer, and the high cost of a lodge stay was not an option.  So, he booked a one day guided DIY program with us.  In return, we told him that we would do everything possible to put him on fish, wether sea run or resident brown's.

As much as we would like to report, the sea run brown's were not biting that day.  Why? When it comes to sea run trout, it's always hard to say why they are on or off the bite; perhaps it's early in the season, with questionable conditions. The good news?  By the end of the day, Andrew caught a handful of resident brown's and had a great time with our team of guides. Andrew's feedback:

"Hola Mark! I just wanted to drop you a line and say I just had the greatest day with First Cast. We had some food and drink at the end of the day and I got to meet some of his friends. It was an experience I will remember forever."

Thanks
Andrew
